Artist of the Week: Miranda Lambert

You don’t have to be from Nashville to love country singers, and one of our favorites is Miranda Lambert! Miranda has the awe-inspiring accomplishment of having all four of the singles in her 2005 debut album, Kerosene, reach the top 40 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs. Since then, she’s released five more albums -- each somehow better than the last -- winning the Grammy Award for Best Country Album for Platinum (2014), which included the lead single “Automatic” that reached top 5 on the Country charts. Currently, she’s traveling throughout Canada, Europe, and the U.S. to perform on her Highway Vagabond Tour.

So imagine our excitement when we got the chance to interview songwriter Nicolle Galyon on the making of “Automatic”! Turns out “Automatic” was originally going to be a love song, but after some late-night brainstorming, Nicolle and Miranda Lambert decided to go in a new direction. As Nicolle puts it, “Automatic” is all about the “sweat, blood, and tears” that goes into country singers’ success.

And you know that first line, “quarter in a payphone”? Miranda Lambert wrote that one herself after country star Patty Loveless told her how she used to bring bags of quarters on the road to do radio interviews at payphones! Check out the video below to hear the rest of the story from Nicolle, and for the next three months, you can hear unlimited tunes on demand like Miranda Lambert's "Automatic" for just 99 cents! Happy listening!
